Closed Ventilator Suction System

A closed ventilator suction system is a medical device used to aspire tracheal secretions from endotracheal tubes. It maintains a closed breathing system to prevent contamination from bacteria which can cause hospital-acquired infections. The system allows the caregiver to clear the lungs of secretions without disrupting the patient while also keeping them safe from any contamination.

Tracheal suctioning helps remove the buildup of secretions, induce coughing and provide proper ventilation for the patient while reducing the risk of lower respiratory tract infections. An ideal ventilator suction system is made up of suction pumps, catheters, tubes, connections and a suction trolley.

A closed ventilation suction system protects patients and caregivers. It reduces the risk of contamination from outside pathogens while reducing colonisation within the circuit. It does not expose the caregiver to any body fluids and comes with a one-way leverage port to prevent “spray back”. The hinged valve on the suction system isolates catheter tips hence preventing inadvertent lavage. The positive locking system also helps in preventing the accidental application of suction.
