Special Considerations

Consider a LARGER BOOT if you're near the maximum size AND these apply:

  • You wear wide shoes
  • You will use bandages or thick socks
  • You have swelling
  • You typically like a looser fit

Consider a SMALLER BOOT if you're near the mimimum size AND these apply:

  • You wear narrow shoes or have slim feet
  • You typically like a tighter fit

  • Remove liner from boot
  • Place foot in liner, and secure with contact closure. Make sure the heel fits snuggly into the posterior portion of the liner, and that it is wrinkle free
  • Fasten the foot flaps on the liner first, making sure they are snug
  • Wrap and fasten the leg portion of the liner, again making sure that it is snug from bottom to top
  • Some trimming of the liner may be necessary to accomplish fit

  • Remove plastic tube liner from uprights, and affix the upright to the liner
  • Spread the uprights using both hands and step into the boot, aligning uprights with the midline of the ankle and ensuring your ankle sits at the back of the boot
  • Ensure the fit of the boot is correct - your toes should not overhang of the edge of the boot, and the height of the boot should finish below the top of the femur bone
  • Extra padding may be inserted under straps either inside the liner or on top for comfort and to help prevent irritation
  • Secure boot straps starting at the strap over the ankle, then the toes and working up the leg
  • The straps should be snug enough to prevent slippage on the boot, but not tight enough to restrict circulation or cause discomfort
