Larger capacity urine collection bags are most commonly used day or night by people who are immobile and/or in bed for long periods. They can also be used during the day by wheelchair users, the collection bag connected directly to the catheter (or sheath). They are most useful to manage large volumes of urine on their own. Large capacity urine collection bags are usually suspended on either a floor stand or a hanger that hooks onto a bed or chair frame. It is important that the tap is supported clear of the floor to reduce the risk of cross-infection. Loops, curves, kinking and twisting of tubing should also be avoided.
